FAQ's

Q): What are the recommended uses for the H20 Mop?

A): The H2O Mop® is designed to thoroughly clean floor surfaces, such as marble, ceramic, stone, linoleum, sealed hardwood floor and parquet. *Always check the use and care instructions of your flooring manufacturer before using the H2O Mop. Do not use on any unsealed flooring. Use of steam on an unsealed wood floor can cause warping or other damage to the finish on floors. Always test the mop on an isolated area of your flooring prior to overall use on any floor surface.

Q): What type of water do I use?

A): H20 Mop uses tap water. Residents in areas with hard water should use distilled water for better performance.

Q): Can I use cleaning solutions or other chemicals?

A): Never put cleaning detergents into the H2O Mop. This will make the operation unsafe and damage the unit.

Q): When does the filter need to be replaced on my H2O Mop?

A): The water filter MUST be changed every three (3) months to help avoid mineral residue buildup. Mineral residue can cause an excessive buildup of pressure inside the H2O Mop unit causing the unit to become very hot and cease functioning. Should you hear a loud popping noise, this is due to lack of proper maintenance. If you encounter a problem of this nature discontinue use of the product immediately.

Q): My mop stopped producing steam/is producing very little steam.

A): A. The water level could be low. Switch the steam cleaner off and refill. Light indicator is red, turn unit on and wait for light indicator to turn green before use. C. If the steam mop begins to produce steam more slowly than usual or stops producing steam you may need to remove limescale from your steamer. Your H2O Mop requires removal of limescale, regularly, to prevent build-up. The frequency depends upon the hardness of your tap water and how often you use the steamer. The instructions for removing limescale is as follows: Prepare a solution of 1/3 white vinegar and 2/3 cold water and add to the water tank. Replace the water tank. Remove the mop head from the steamer. Plug into electrical outlet and turn on the H2O Mop. Once the indicator light turns green; operate the steam mop continuously until the limescale removing solution has steamed through. It should take 10-15 minutes to completely empty the water tank. Do not leave the steamer unattended during the limescale removal process/while in use. Do not let the water tank boil dry. Repeat the above procedure as many times as necessary until the normal steam rate returns. With each repeated cycle, use a fresh solution of vinegar and water. Remove the water tank and rinse out. Run half a tank of fresh, cold water through the unit at the completion of limescale removal. Turn the steamer off and unplug from the electrical outlet.

Q): Can I use the H2O Mop on my carpet?

A): Yes, the H2O Mop can be used on your carpet. Only use the carpet glider on carpeting & rugs. Use of the carpet glider on other floor surfaces will cause streaking and possible scratching of the surface. When using the H2O Mop on carpet surfaces; Place the mop head (with microfiber or disposable pad in place) on top of the carpet glider. Do not attempt to use the H2O Mop on carpet/rug surfaces without the carpet glider in place. Never use the carpet glider on surfaces that are prone to scratching. Take note: this product emits steam and will create moisture. If left operating too long in one place it can create water marks.

Q): My mop is leaving puddles of water.

A): The microfiber pad must be clean and dry for use. Apply new micro fiber or disposable pad and continue use. (If using a Disposable Pad: Let pad cool, remove from unit, replace with new pad and continue use. If using a Micro- Fiber Pad: Let pad cool, remove pad from unit, rinse thoroughly, ring water out of pad, replace pad to unit and continue mopping.) (Important: After plugging in the H2O Mop, wait for red light to turn green prior to pressing the steam trigger. If the trigger is pressed prior to ready light indicator turning green, water from previous use will not be heated and will be forced out by present steam and will cause puddling to occur.)

Q): My mop is leaking water.

A): Water level is too high. Turn unit off and unplug, remove water tank and adjust water level no higher than the “max” level of the water tank.

Q): The disposable pads on my H2O Mop are tearing.

A): Pads are designed for single use. Over use of disposable pads may cause them to tear and damage flooring.

Q): My H2O Mop is leaving behind a brown residue.

A): When using the H20 Mop for the first time or if the mop is not used for a long time you may notice traces of brown colored water coming out with steam. This is normal. We recommend running the mop for 1-2 minutes before use to allow the resin to disappear, the mop should then start emitting clear steam. The brown residue comes from the resin used in the water filter. If the mop is not used for a long period, then the resin inside the water filter will become dry and when the mop is used again a small amount of brown water/steam will come out.

Q): Do I need to empty the water tank after use?

A): Yes, to insure continued operation of the steamer, never store without cleaning and removing all excess water from the water tank. Note: Water quality will vary in different areas.

Q): Does my H2O Mop come with a warranty?

A): Yes, your H2O Mop is warranted, to the original owner, for 1 Year from date of purchase against defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service. Should your H2O Mop prove defective within 1 Year from date of purchase, return the defective part or unit, freight prepaid along with an explanation of the claim to Thane Direct. Please package your H2O Mop carefully to avoid damage in transit. Under this warranty, Thane Direct will repair or replace any parts found to be defective due to a manufactures defect. • Repairs made by an unauthorized service technician.
Q): I’m having trouble getting the disposable pads onto the mop head.

A): The disposable pads are designed to fit tight to the mop head so it stays in place during use and is designed for one time use only. For proper use, follow these instructions: Locate the label on the Disposable Pad. Attach the Pad to the Mop Head, the label on the front of the pad should go on the front of the Mop Head. Dispose of the Pad after use.

Q): I’m having trouble getting the Microfiber Cloth to stay on my unit.

A): If using the Microfiber Cloth attach the Microfiber Cloth to the Mop Head. Wrap the drawstring around the Mop Head and tighten it up.

Q): How do I use the H2O Mop on carpet surfaces?

A): When using the H2O Mop®™ on carpet surfaces; place the mop head (with microfiber or disposable pad in place) on top of the carpet glider. Do not attempt to use the H2O Mop Ultra on carpet/rug surfaces without the carpet glider in place. Never use the carpet glider on surfaces that are prone to scratching. Only use carpet glider on carpeting & rugs. Use of the carpet glider on other floor surfaces will cause streaking and possible scratching of the surface. When using the H2O Mop on carpet surfaces;. Never use the carpet glider on surfaces that are prone to scratching. Take note: this product emits steam and will create moisture.

Q): How do I wash the microfiber pads?

A): Microfiber cloth care:

  • Machine wash 60 ºC (140 ºF)
  • Do not bleach
  • Do not use softener
  • Do not tumble dry
Q): My mop is not producing steam and I’ve tried vinegar and water.

A): If your H2O Mop begins to produce steam more slowly than usual or stops producing steam you may need to remove lime scale. Lime scale can develop over time on the metal parts and greatly affect the mop's performance. We recommend removing lime scale on a regular basis especially in areas with hard water. The frequency of lime scale removal depends upon the hardness of your tap water and how often you use the steam mop.

To remove lime scale from the H2O mop you can either prepare a solution of 1/3 white vinegar and 2/3 tap water and ad to the water tank (see lime scale removal instructions for further detail found in the instruction manual) or you can follow these procedures:

1. Make sure that the H2O Mop is disconnected from the power supply before maintenance.

2. Remove the mop head from the main body.

3. Use any suitable metal pin (i.e. knitting needle) to remove scale deposits from the inside of the steam outlet. By moving the pin further inside the steam outlet then swirling and pushing the pin up and down you will clean the inside of the boiler. Make sure that removed scale debris get out of the boiler and steam outlet.

WARNING: BE SURE THE UNIT IS DISCONNECTED FROM THE POWER OUTLET WHEN PERFORMING THIS PROCEDURE.

4. Attach the mop head to the main body and screw the philips screw until it is fully tightened.

Note: After each lime scale removal we recommend performing a test cleaning on a suitable isolated area to ensure that there is no debris left in the system.

It is the best piece of cleaning equipment I have ever had. My hardwood, Karndene and vinyl floors are like new. The carpets have come up beautiful. It only took one day after ordering to when I got delivery the next day. I would reccommend this mop to anyone who wants a clean and germfree home.

I recently got a puppy and i was getting so uptight with the smell of puppy in my house. Everything i tried would never get rid of the smell but the h20 mop is fantastic. I love it. My house smells so clean and fresh, plus my floors have never looked so good! I can't fault the h20 mop in any way. My family have all had a go and they are investing in one now too.

Thane says...the H20 Mop will freshen and sanitise your carpets. It can also help with light soiling if treated straight away. It's a steam cleaner rather than a carpet cleaner.

We purchased the H20 Mop a year ago and have never had a problem - we have Natural Slate Tiles, Solid Wood Floors, Semi-Solid, Laminate and Ceramic Tiles throughout the house and it always gets them clean.

We also have 2 very large, messy dogs that live in the house and find no other method to keep the house as clean.

Have recommended it to many friends and family members, each have found it to be excellent - when we purchased, we got the FREE hand steamer and extra pads.

Would recommend it, have never had a problem with puddles or excessive water on the floor - only use the trigger when we need the extra boost for cleaning.

Thane says...thank you for your feed back! We hope you continue to enjoy the H20 Mop!

I have just purchased the H2O mop and was eager to use it. After reading the comments online we have been having the problem of our floors being very wet. do we have to keep the steam on all the time while cleaning the floor or just use when needed? And can we use the blue cloth for extra dryness?

Thane says...The steam trigger should be used when needed, keeping the steam trigger pressed will cause over wetting. The blue coral cloth can be used if you feel you need extra dryness.

Do I have to do anything to the water filter? How do I know when to replace it?

Thane Says: We recommend that you change the water every 3-6 months.

Used the H2O mop for the first time this morning on my laminate flooring. Its fantastic, left my floors clean & dry every home should have one. I will be recommending H2O mop to family & friends.

Posted on Mar 24, 2009, 11:20 am by Brian

Just received our cleaner. Are we doing something wrong? Our kitchen floor which is tiled was left very wet altho' you video says that the floors should be dry

Thane says... The most common cause for extremly wet floors is misuse of the trigger. The steam trigger is designed to be used to give a blast of steam when needed. If the trigger is held down, too much steam will be released and the floor will become very wet. How well the room is ventilated will effect the drying time of the floor.

I own the H2O, but as it was given as a gift, I haven't got the carpet glider. It this item available as a stand-alone purchase ?

I recieved my H20 Steamer yesterday and could not wait to use it, i found that it left my tiled floors very wet, I used the blue cloth and the towling cloth, can you tell me an I doing something wrong I left the swithch on the handle on is this correct.

Thane says:
The H2O Mop when used correctly with the coral or microfibre cloth will leave floors wet but not soaked as you seem to have experienced. Here are our tips:
Do not over fill the water reservoir as this causes too much water to go through the mop.
Wait for the green light before pressing the steam trigger.
Press the steam trigger once to start the steam.
You do not need to spend a long time in one area of floor.
The micro fibre cloths will soak up most of the excess moisture as the steam hits the cold floors.
If the atmospheric conditions are humid or damp or the floor is very cold, then the steam may turn to water on the floor and not evaporate as fast as on sunny days. This is the same when you have a regular mop.
Hope these tips help - if you have any problems contacts us by email on our Customer Service page.
